Mac or PC with Xpress pro

I am just looking to chance my editing tools. Liquid doesn't handle HVX as we know. 720P 50 is the most needed (Pal) format. Would like to use labtop most of time. Likely to stay in Avid, or maybe chance to FCP. Have PC's now. Could I get more power if chancing to Mac's?

The age-old question.

Truth be told in a couple of days with the release of Xpress Pro HD on the Mac Avid will work identically on both platforms. If you have an interest in FCP, then obviously, you'll need a Mac. Otherwise it's whatever is most comfortable for you.

I recently transitioned from PC to Mac and I love it, but I changed for reasons that were not related to Avid because I knew that Avid wouldn't change one bit.

Thanks!

No difference in speed, that I was looking after. The other question is, how FCP compares with Xpress Pro?

FCP is Awesome...So is Avid, but Final Cut Pro comes cheeper and has the entire Final Cut Studio which is a real bargin.

With Avid now on par with MAC's I would say MAC is the choice. Plus all of the Intel Macs can now run windows.

Im currently operating 3 systems.

1. G5 (4 x 2.5 GHz)
2. BOXX (PC) Dual 3.2 GHz
3. Powerbook G4 1.33 GHz

The clear winner is the BOXX. I have always ran Xpress pro on a Mac until last month. I will do 10 hour edit sessions on the Boxx, all key framing and using about 15 video tracks. System has never had a glitch. I don't even render the sequence! The performance is amazing. The G5 is pretty good, but 1. its not running HD, and 2. Has common glitches that only a MAC/Avid user would know-( that annoying red line..) The powerbook, well its getting a little old now. Avid is a PC Program, of course they will advertise it works flawlessly with Mac :) However, you always have to wait for updates! Does running final cut pro on your pc sound very attractive?

Well, interesting experience You have. Much depends, which program will first offer 720 50P support. Very frustating to wait what & when eventually comes up.

FCP is cheaper then avid and you get more like previously mentioned. I plan on getting an iMac 17 inch 1.83Ghz Intel Core Duo and have FCP 5.1 to edit on it. The reason is just because of cost, and FCP is almost par with AVID.

Funny, but a unfair assesment. Final Cut Pro has cut Cold Mountion, Jarhead, and the upcoming David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) Zodiac. I don't think Xpress Pro has been used as a sole Editor (Although Many Productions use it along the line) on any film, as it?
