Mac not recognizing dvx 100a through FIRE WIRE

Hello

My name is Ryan. I recently purchased a DVX 100a and used it to upload some footage. It worked fine. The next day the computer would not recognize the camera. I plugged in my Canon GL1, and it was immediately recognized, but still the dvx has not been recognized. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Try using one of your other FW ports. I had this problem at first but resolved it by plugging it into my FW port on the back of the tower. The one on the front works with my iPod and External HD but for some reason it didnt recognize my camera when I had it hooked up in the front. Oh I have MAC G5.

If you plugged/unplugged your camera to/from the mac with power on, there's a very good chance that you fried the firewire port on your camera. This is a known problem with the DVX - it doesn't like live connection, especially to macs.My advice is to use the cheapest DV camera you can find for capturing - that will save you lots of money in the long term.

Turn everything off. Connect up, turn on camera to VCR mode. Turn on the computer and the nmake sure all your FCP settigns are configured for playing back all frames over firewire.

If you have access to a GL1, try plugging the DVX and the GL1 together via firewire. If they can connect, then the firewire port on your camera is fine. If they can't... well, try a different cable, but it may not be too promising for the state of your firewire port.
