MAC HDD related question

I had two 750 GB HDDs running as a strip raid and one of the drives died. Have a backup so not concerned.

Still under warranty I returned the HDD to place of purchase.

The other 750gb is still alive and is recognised by my mac.

My issue is - this drive being one half of my strip raid wont reformat. Tried just about every possibility I can think of in disk utility to no avail - any ideas?

Anyone? I noticed also today that whilst my mac reads the drive - its seeing it as a media drive.

Bump again - sorry, all my searches at this point are turning up unrelated junk.

Ah, the problem is that it has no partition map. You need to partition it, then you can format it. I think that disk utility should let you do that.

If that doesn't work, please be as specific as you can about what you see when you try to repartition it in disk utility.

If there isn't a "partition" tab (eg: First Aid / Erase/ Partition / RAID/ Restore) then click on the drive, rather than the volume in the left hand area.

You probably want a GUID partition table, if you have an intel mac and you're not moving these drives to use them with powerpc macs.

If you can't partition or can't erase after partitioning, a screenshot of the diskutility window might help us debug further.

Ok so I went through it all again. No flamingo.

The backup to these drives is now in another country and rebacked up. Thus theres no issue with the data loss I have here. So I wont be spending chunks of cash to recover a drive. Ive pretty much resigned it to the dead pile. Considering the fact I have just redone my hard drive set up.

I have popped in two internal 1.5 terrabyte drives on a stripe raid for edits (3TB) and added an external SATA 3TB stripe raid of the same size for backups. And now how two spare 750's, one I will move my macos to and the other I will move my win OS to.

Cheers and thanks for helping.
