Mac External Hardrive Dump Options ?

I'm looking at various hardrive options for storing P2 files in the field.
I have an in-car inverter to power drive from normal socket so I guess I can use any external hardrive:
-Would firewire be the way to go as i'm on mac ?
-Am I going to have any problems with a mac formated drive ?
-Will USB2 work ?
Anyhting else I should consider ?
Many thanks

Firewire is the way to go with mac....FW800 if your mac AND external both have it.

I was in the field (backwoods of GA and TN) and I just had an inverter set up in the rental Expedition and used my powerbook and an external drive I had the company buy. I did all my dumps live.

Sweet :)
Did you dump straight to the HD or through laptop ?
Cheers

Straight to the HD, done on two seperate shows now. A bit of a pain...but worth the ability to keep your files organized.

Good to know it works ok.
I'm going to be a bit scared with all that footage sitting on a 3.5" and no way to check it without plugging in a laptop that we might not have.

Well...you need the laptop as the go through to the external HD. Assuming it has a PC card slot. Thats why I said I had my powerbook, too.

My apologies for mis-understanding your question. I put it straight to the HD...through the laptop.

Will this work?

http://www.g-technology.com/Products/G-DRIVE-mini.cfm

G-DRIVE™ mini hard drives from G-Tech... ultra-portable... with up to 160 GB of storage space for you digital video... bus powered, no need to carry external AC power supply... hot-pluggable FireWire800, 400 and USB interfaces... Mac OS and Windows compatible...

Any external HD will work so long as you have the laptop with a PC card slot to go through.

Those G-tech are nice but pricey as hell.

I thought we could connect straight to the hardrive in PC mode and dump direct providing the drive is formated ?
Cheers

Keep in mind, doing this creates a seperate partition for each P2 card you transfer. You transfer 10 P2 cards, 10 different drives will show up when you plug it in to the computer (on a Mac anyway).

Thats good...keeps them somewhat organized.

Better then dumping them to a P2 Store, and then having 4 million unamed drives show up on your desktop.

Isn't the P2 store also limited to 15 partitions? So the most you would get are 15 unnamed drives.

HHHmmm £1000+P2 store or £100 external hardrive I just can't decide, oh wait no i've decided.
