Mac and PCs

Can anyone tell me exactly how much memory you would need to be able to run editing software efficiently (Vegas Video or FCP). For instance I see an Apple G3 in the recylcler for $260.00 but it only has 233 mhz and it doesn't list how much ram or anything it has. I know 233 isn't alot of mhz, but what should be like the minimmum amount of everything that I should have for the pc or mac and how much should I expect to pay for a used one. Or should I even buy it used? Thanks, tim.

Re: Mac and PCs

A G3 won't run FCP HD (latest version) without some serious cracking.
If you want to start "FCPing" you should look for a G4 800MHz minimum. And as said, with at least 512Mb RAM.

On a different note, I'd love to live in the US and pick up a 233 G3 for 260 Bucks.

Also Important is to try and project what other softwares and cards you might want/need over perhaps 2-3 years. check each mfgs' website. If you do not project correctly today you may need to repurchase soon than you thought and hoped.

Re: Mac and PCs

The more mem you can stick in the better especially especially in memory intensive stuff like video editing. If your system uses all it's physical memory it has to use your hard drive as virtual memory and that will frustrate you with poor system performance.
