Mac 10.5 reinstall

Ok I give up. I remember seeing it before but I can't google it up any more. I need to back everything in my old Mac into an ext HD and do a clean reinstall because of grey screen of death. How do I go about do that again?

edit: to be precise, it's the Folder/Flashing question mark screen.
