GH5 m43 Native Electronic Lens Correction -- Not on Leica?

I was reading old findings from the GH2 days of how panasonic/olympus m43 lenses send electronic data to the camera body for lens distortion correction, which softens the image, so the camera then corrects for this by increasing sharpness. And thus, native m43 electronic lens correction that artificially sharpens the image and gives all our electronic native glass that sharp look was born. And how this is circumvented with manual glass or adapted glass.

However, there was a comment there how Leica does not let Panny brand their glass unless it does not do any electronic distortion correction. Is this true?

And if so, does this bypass the forced electronic process, and mean that Leica branded m43 glass can look as organic/clean as adapted or manual glass? Or does the native Leica glass still get the forced electronic sharpening?

I don’t know who made those claims, but they are simply not true. Leica lenses are subjected to firmware correction like any other Panasonic lens. You can verify this by comparing jpegs with RAW files generated by third party software in reviews that publish such findings, like lenstip.

Never trust a random comment on the internet. Unless there is hard factual evidence or confirmation of such a thing you have to assume it isn’t true.

Oh I didn’t trust it, hence my post! But it sounds like this, disappointly, a negatory.

So the only “true” non electronic native m43 glass we have are the non electronic manuals then, eh? Even the lofty Leicas such as the 42.5 nocitron are subject to electronic correction and sharpening?

Can someone speak authoritatively on what scenarios use this metadata in what manner? I really don't shoot much with native lenses, so I've never really explored this, but would be interested to know more.

For example, my assumption is that the corrections are not "baked into" a RAW file, but rather included as metadata for the RAW processor (as visible in a tool like Adobe Lightroom.) Similarly, it seems safe to assume that all corrections are incorporated into a JPEG image within the camera. How many of these possible corrections are applied to video images in camera in real time? All of them, a subset, none?

I've read that taping over the electronic contacts on the lenses is what showed this realization, but, those tests were never performed with the new Leica glass unfortunately.

Does the BMPCC apply this electronic distortion correction and resultant sharpening? Or just Panasonic?
