GH4 M42 lens not compatible with EF to MTF Speed Booster?

I purchased my first vintage lens, the 1964 Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 M42 in super mint condition, because I saw this guy https://vimeo.com/quietfilms use this very lens with a metabones speed booster and get incredible results. I ordered the FotodioX M42 to EF adapter from B&H and when I turned my GH4 on, the screen turned on black and said "Lens attachment failed. Please make sure the lens is attached correctly." And yes, the "shoot w/o lens option is ON". So I turned off the GH4, took everything off and put it back together and turned it back on, same results. I googled what may be wrong and metabones website said this: "Some improperly-made M42 screw mount adapters may short the electronic contacts of the Speed Booster and cause damage to the Speed Booster and/or camera body."

I had no idea that this was an issue. I removed the M42 lens adapter and put on a sigma 17-50mm 2.8 ef and electronics worked fine so no damage was done. I read that flange distances may be the issue.

So, here are my questions:
- How did quiet films get the takumar to work on his metabones speedbooster?
- If the fotodiox adapter is "improperly-made", is there a "properly-made" M42 screw mount adapter that will work with my ef to mft speedbooster?
- I've read somewhere that you have to modify the lens but there was no explanation of what that means. How does one modify a M42 lens?
- If there is no solution to my metabones problem and have to purchase another adapter, it has to be a focal-reducing adapter bc I do want a 115mm 1.4 lens, I want a 80mm 1.0 lens. So RJ or Pixco?

Thanks for the help in advance!

-Rob

The problem you have is that your M42 to EF adapter has a AF confirm chip, you should get a cheaper adapter without the focus confirm chip or take off the chip from your adapter.
Also if you don't turn the adapter totaly so that it doesn't align with the speed booster contacts it should also work, but it's a precarious solution.
