M2

Okay let me get this right HVX is the camera and the M2 is the lense? Go ahead and laugh :)

I have a Dvx100 and it is a good camera but always looking forward to move ahead.

So if the HVX is much better then the DVX then it would be time for me to sell and save.

Okay here is a question for you all - What is better: Dvx100, Hvx or Super 16mm?

The reason I ask is because I want my next short film to be transfer to 35mm and projected up on the big screen. Fotocam said it will cost about $200 a minute so that means I will need to make sure my next short is only 5 minutes long :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Not only is this resolvable via a simple google or dvxuser search, but is in the wrong section. *sigh*

I will not laugh at your question Corine, but your lack of effort to figure this out before you asked.

Hi Corine,

If you can afford the S16 work-flow (film stock, processing, HD telecine, and then film-out transfer, or instead of HD telecine and film-out, a DV telecine, then negative cat and film print) then this will certainly be the best. However, this will limit you in the amount of takes you can run while shooting and could potentially compromise performance...

The HVX rout is probably the most cost-effective compromise, since it is very close to Super 16 film in its image quality, and offers a significantly lower cost work-flow.

The DVX is great if you need to deliver on DV, but if you are planning a film-out I would make sure to use the HVX in its 1080p mode to gain maximum detail and minimize compression artifacts.

Also, bear in mind that using the M2 looks great on the small screen but could potentially be too soft for the big screen. You should run a test and see if you like how it looks compared to the HVX stock lens.

I hope this helps...

Thanks all. I'm new to all of this and each time I learn more :-)

I was wondering what it would cost to rent a HVX for a week (before I drop 5geees)? and who would you recommend for rental?

$250 a day would be okay if they gave a weekly rate less then $1000 with a full package - Other wise I think I would be better off just buying the gear. I would be filming in Los Angeles so I'm guessing there are some good rental houses?
