M2 lenses

Hey guys, just wanted to know if anyone here has used the Nikon 1.4x teleconverter with the M2?

I have one on order and I figured that a $150 investment would in theory give me 4 "new" prime lenses. There is only a one stop loss, so it isn't that bad. I'll be sure to write back at what my experience is. The following is my lens list and the four "new" lenses this converter will..... well, convert. :)

*It is suggested lenses under 50mm are not great when used with the converter. I would agree anyway, since the 24mm converted is 33.6mm and the 35mm converted is 49mm. Since I own a nice 35mm and 50mm, a 33.6 and 49mm does not give much benefit anyhow.

Nikon
*24mm f/2.8
*35mm f/1.4
50mm f/1.4
85mm f/1.8
105mm f/2.5
80-200mm zoom f/4

With teleconverter I will get these lenses:
70mm f/2.0
119mm f/2.5
147mm f/3.5
112mm- 280mm f/5.6

Seems like a good idea Prodigy. I have been experimenting with the Brevis and an additional low cost 3x tele on a 50-500mm on the HVX. Results are pretty poor in this case, because the 3x and 500mm are not high quality. I have some 1.4x and 2.0x tele's for long lenses earmarked for a 400-800mm lens (not fast or high quality, just new and cost effective) I have on back-order, hoping to yield better results for surf footage acquisition.

I hope you get good results. I would be interested to see a comparison of the end results in due course.

I'll be sure to post some screen grabs with some basic lenses before and after adding the 1.4x converter.

It might be a short while...

What were some problems you have been experiencing?

Problems, the 3x is not very good quality and the zoom must have a problem, traditional zoom in to focus and zoom out to get the shot, the image goes out of focus. Cheap $100 second hand glass, worth a try I thought.

The other issue is the the image projected to the Brevis from this long zoom has slight fall off on the sides. This is relevant on the 50-500mm with and without the 3x tele. This could be problematic because that particular 3x converter is not suitable for such a long lens, though the fall off is still apparent to some extent with just the zoom. I understand that this may be improved by zooming through to the GG as far as possible, focus permitting, then failing that, add an extender tube in the chain to allow the HVX to focus on the GG further out, thus zooming through more while maintaining focus and possibly overcoming the fall off. Because the 50-500mm is problematic to focus and stay focused on zoom through, I am awaiting the alternate new cheapo lens on back-order to test this better.

This appears to be a problem raised before when using adapters and using longer lenses. I have recently purchased a Sigma 28-200mm macro and need to test to see if fall off occurs. I'll post a few low-res frames of the 50-500mm (with/without 3x) in a few days when I get a chance. The Brevis does not display any fall off on the brief use/mounting of the 24mm through to the 105mm Nikon primes I have. The biggest issue I see whether you are using short primes or long zooms, is the amount of stacked glass, things like chromatic abberation can become your enemy, depending on the quality of each component in the lens chain. Then add a 1.4x or 2x tele, things can change more, but worth a try imo. Just some thoughts, not a lot of experience behind these comments.
