GH4 LUTS for V-log L - Links & Examples

Several very helpful DVX users have demonstrated that the Varicam V709 LUT from Panasonic is not a good match for the GH4 V-log L. But what are our alternatives?

I propose that we post potential compatible LUTS here along with example footage/still frames if possible.

Here are a couple links to LUTS that may work well with the GH4 V-log L.

A couple of these LUTs have been demonstrated in this thread

So far I have yet to see any user examples of these LUTs. And I wonder why there are 200 of them...

ImpulZ is another well known LUT collection utilizing cine-d in an interesting modular way.
(or do you want collect v-log LUTs only?)

and jblazers IDT collection there is v-log support (...but you will need OpenColorIO to bake a more limited LUT out of it)

A challenge is that there aren't many, if any, LUT's properly developed specifically for V-LOG L.

For example, Neumann's V-LOG LUTs aren't really optimized for it at all. Per his instructions, you need to apply a CINEON conversion first.

Because of this, there's a lot of talk about this LUT looking nice, or that LUT not looking nice, but very little hard info about accurate LUT's.

You don't have to use a Cineon converter at all. It's just he says that its useful for adjusting exposure fine tuning.

i perfectly agree! but this accourate is hard to compare, if most of the people want to see something quite different to rec709 and all its practical limitations on the output side.

comparing a corrected intermediate representation in scene referred linear space would make much more sense. you could distinguish errors in this first step of processing (the v-log interpretation) from all those issues related to the output/device referred side. that's why i prefer the ACES workflow or similar over more simple LUT application.

Additionally, I'd like to see Andrew Reid's "LOG Conversion" process compared to these new V-LOG LUTs we've been looking at so closely this week.
Now obviously it doesn't make use of a 'typical' LOG process, but the small number of examples he has posted look very intriguing to me.
And it seems to me that his 2-step process is not really that different in underlying principle than what Paul has done with the LEEMING LUT.

I'm not expecting his LOG Conversion to Canon 1DC LUTs to be extremely accurate clinically, but I am expecting them to have a desirable image quality of a type we maybe haven't seen much of from the GH4.

Is your Gh4 ACES ready and or approved? Mine isn't.

mine can be used in an ACES environment in a satisfying way. in most applications you can customize the necessary IDT list by editing ocio.conf. resolve doesn't give you this choice [while offering a lot of non ACES approved IDTs, eg. for panasonic v-log data], but that's definitely not one of the merits of this product.
