FS7: LUT only for monitors?

Hello

Just bought an FS7 used, and bought the Arri FILM LOOK LUT..
Like a newbie, I managed to put the cube LUT in the FS7 but now cant get it to work.. Monitor LUT is greyed out.

Are Luts ONLY for monitors and external recorders? I cant use a LUT to record internally? I was able to get settings for my A7SII for Canon Look and it was amazing..

Any tricks to get around that?

Thanks sorry for the dumb question..

George

You can apply LUT to any output, LCD or record it internally. But if I remember correctly there's some limitations when it comes to recording in 4k DCI. There might be certain combination of settings that makes the use of a LUT impossible so try to save all files and then do a reset on all settings and try again if you can apply a LUT. If it doesn't work you can recall all files so you don't loose anything by doing so.

Hi there

So you are saying I cannot record LUT to my XQD card without a external device?
I dont have any monitor or recorder.

(MONITOR LUT is greyed out so how can i set it to record the LUT internally?)

Are there any tricks? like connecting the HDMI to a TV and setting it to record LUT to hdmi and SQD , once I unplug the TV will it still record the LUT internally?

George

Yes, you can record a MLUT internally with no additional hardward needed, but personally I wouldn't recommend it. Why buy an FS7 and then dumb it down like that?
Are you sure the camera is even in the CINE EI mode? That could be your problem.

You can absolutely record a LUT to the xqd card, it has to be set to SDI 1/Internal record.

but perhaps, as mentioned above, the combination of settings you have set right now are not allowing it. What resolution/codec are you shooting?

I highly recommend the hands on FS7 masterclass series from Doug Jensen. It will help you to get quickly familiar with the FS7. Be sure more questions will come up and the tutorials will help you to get access to all functions. I used it by myself and it was well spent money. https://vimeo.com/ondemand/fs7

Concerning your issues it's difficult to guess as you did not mention your settings.
Do you have lens distortion activated? That blocks the monitor LUTs
Also they can be applied only in CineEI mode not in custom settings which includes slog3

Clermond, thanks for the plug. Very much appreciated.
Another potential issue is that maybe he has not placed the MLUT into the right folder on the memory card. He says he has successfully loaded it into the camera, but maybe not. It is not a very intuitive process and things need to be done just right or it won't work.
