EVA1: Lumix S1H Zoom options

Just out of curiosity, does your Panny 24-70mm lens hold focus when zooming from 70mm to 24mm ?

Apparently some people are lucky and have a copy that will hold focus, while others have said that their copy won't do it.

Just curious to see how common this is.

Mine is not parfocal. It is close, but it loses focus enough for the image to become soft. It's too bad that it's just slightly off. It's almost as if it's designed to be parfocal and then just slightly isn't. Well, better than most lenses I suppose.

It's also very sharp wide open except at 70mm I find it noticably softer. Can more people confirm what I'm seeing?

I find mine similar as far as parfocal. But at wide open mine is sharp. Just looking now at the 16-35 and 70-200, first run through is they look great. But just putting clips on computer now.

Thanks!

Can you do a comparison at 50mm f2.8 vs 70mm f2.8 for instance? I could see a pretty clear difference in mine. At 70mm it is a bit softer.

Hum, I am not seeing that. Set up with subject 12' away, ISO 200, f/2.8, just at zebra 90, with UHD I-Frame, 400Mbs. Going from 50mm to 70mm it goes off a very little, I mean a touch on the focus ring, to maybe a foot longer and then sharp. The other way going from 70mm to 50mm I can't see a difference. Both of these are looking blown up and in the focus window which shows just as much. Not scientific, but what real world shooting is. Of course these are locked down shots. And not something I would do shooting. I would not call it a parfocal, but great for a mirrorless lens.

Oh ****, sorry Paul. I probably didn't make myself very clear.

I meant that the lens is a bit softer at 70mm f2.8 than it is at 50mm f2.8. I wasn't talking about the 'parfocalness' anymore. I just meant that the image is a bit softer at 70mm f2.8 than at other focal lengths.

Thanks for testing and replying Paul.

Hmm, then my copy isn't perfect. Did you check it at infinity focus or at a close(r) distance?
And f2.8 right?

Added the new Panasonic S, 2x extender to the S Pro 70-200, and am very happy with that purchase. At 400mm I can grab a clip with added lens stability plus E-Stability. And the lens is still sharp. So a quick way to add focal range and keep my load light.
