GH2 Lumix 45-200mm (H-FS045200): I need firmware 1.2 ( not the newest 1.3 )

Hi there,

I flashed my 45-200mm (H-FS045200) to 1.3 and it's not performing as well as 1.2.
Specifically it seems to be hunting for focus more that it used to.

I'd like to find 1.2 for this lens. Panasonic says it's "not available"

If someone can email it to me or any other option you can think of that would be great.

Thanks,

Steve

So you were able to revert to an earlier version? And did this solve the issue of focus hunting?

P.S. Enjoyed the music bed for your bees video.

Hi ... I haven't had a chance to try it yet but will report back with the results. It might take a few days to get some open time.
Thanks on the "enjoyed the music..."

Steve

EDIT:

From the install instructions:
"If newer version or same version of firmware has already been installed, the initial setup screen(Fig. 3) will not be displayed."
OK that is what's happening.

I'm reluctant to rename the .bin file to a higher number than the installed version for 2 reasons.
( I heard some where this was a way to trick the camera into thinking older was newer )
The installed version is 1.3 and was installed using ES100213.lin ( That's an .Lin extension )

BUT
the file names I've found for 1.2 are ES100212.bin ( .Bin )

The firmware for the 14-42mm is also a .Lin extension.
The GH2 body, however, is a .Bin extension.

Sorry to have wasted you time. But I'm gonna play it safe and just stay with 1.3.

Steve,

If the "focus hunting" was occurring in the 100 - 200mm range of the zoom, that is somewhat typical of autofocus struggling that can occur in any of the longer telephoto range. I think the GH series uses a refined contrast detection autofocus and much of the time you don't have a lot of contrast in that part of your zoom range.

There's likely nothing wrong with your lens or it's firmware. You are wise not muck around with the firmware.

I use manaul focus with the magnified focus assist to "nail" focus with longer focal lengths anyway.

Thanks Bruce. Yes. I saw it most in the 100-200 range. It's not all of the time. It just seems a bit different after I flashed to 1.3.
