I had the opportunity to use this lens on a shoot.
The shoot required quick setups and no room to change lens.
this wasnt an event shoot. This lens still wouldnt be the best bet for that.

It was an outdoor shoot, most lowlight shots of course i had to switch to a faster lens
at 4.0-5.8, you get decent DOF from 50mm and upwards.

the OIS helped in hand held shots
most of the time i treated the lens like a variable prime and stuck to 35-50-85-100mm and the shake is miniimized.
at 14mm and OIS, this cam works well with handheld walk.

If the shoot is outdoor, in well lit scenes, narrative, this lens is definitely worthy.

I concur with most of what you say, except I've used it for doc work and find it performs quite admirably.

right mostly on scenes that are "event" like
it would still work but youre better off with normal camcorders

It has its good points... superb images and I can still drag a nice shallow DOF out of it, but Aggghhh as soon as you try to do a slow zoom (ramping) or adjust the iris you get the steppy response...
