Lucid Movie Trailer: horror

Heya fellas,

So I presented an older version of this to the class and to the teacher. After it was viewed there were comments and suggestions. Which was really cool, teacher says I need to polish it a bit more. So I did, started over and redid my trailer in Vegas 5. I didn't know how to use the program but I heard it was so much better than Adobe Premiere. So I gave it a shot and heres the product of it. Lemme know what you think.

I'll start off w/ my suggestions. Again IMO...

The noise when text would come in kinda got on my nerves. It was loud and repetitive. Were you using the on-camera mic? I ask cause in some conversation parts the background (traffic, etc.) seem a little loud. And lastly the girl crawling... a little "RingISH" lol.

Other than that I like the story and the editing/effects were really good. Good job, keep it up.

I think you've got something cool there.

some thoughts:

its japanese horror-style obviously. It kinda had the tone of The Ring and Jeepers Creepers. somewhere along that line..

The colors and the angles really made it seem dreamy. somehow, when we dream everything seems blurry or we feel like we're walking sideways or on one leg, disjointed somehow- you did a good job in capturing that mood.

on the other hand,

It jumped too many times. As a trailer itself, i thought there were too many of those static images and jump scenes. a bit repetitive. It should be made just a bit more tighter so it's even more surprising. all in all it wasn't bad. pretty creepy. got the job done.
just my two cents.

Looks good. As a trailer I think you need to cut and tighten it, but overall it looks pretty good. Heavily influenced by the ring, but it looks like you did a pretty good job of imitating that style. I think your titles could use a little work. Experiment with word choice and possibly even a simpler font. How about using just the font with white over a black card and sound effects before cutting to footage?

Good work so far.

The color effects were definitely dope.

But I agree with DJ Quik Fingaz...in order to establish it as a truly genuine piece, you gotta do somethin about the way the girl moves. It's just way too Ring for me. And I've already seen that movie.

But, that's just one man's opinion...

The trailer looked cool. Kind of seems like the tone of it was all over the place. Like it was a dream trailer and then it would go into a horror trailer, then back again. That to me was a little jaring. Some of the shots looked good but that acting looked like it could have been improved upon.

I had one of those dreams that your story is about. Where something in your dreams follows you back. Scared the crap out of me...boy did I love it.

Well done...good composition....like the tint job and change of hues in some of the shots...nice shallow focus on a few also....i'd have to agree as far as the audio goes....a bit muffled sounding. Lol one real obvious mistake ....i'm assuming you didn't pay much attention in english class, the first line reads: 1. The practice of knowing your dreaming while your dreaming. It's you're....wonder if any of your fellow students chuckled when they saw this. So as far as vegas being better than premiere...what do ya think? Just wondering cause currently I work with Avid and Premiere.

hiya,

thanks for the comments, I have til tuesday. That's tommorrow, I'll go ahead and make some changes. I notice the sound too. I figure it was the compression. yes I did use the camera mic, I don't know if the audio can be fix or not. I just download a trial version of soundforge a few days ago, maybe I can do something about it. The ringish-japanese horror feel was purposely done because it was something I wanted to do for the longest time. I don't plan on taking it to sundance or anything lol. But, I will turn it in for a grade. Doubleit, I like to see your film when its done. I don't plan on making a movie out of this, it just for fun! just a hobbie. Mr.blonde my head was down most of the time during english class. I guess its catching up with me. That part wasn't in the other versions because I felt it didn't need to be explain. Thanks for the grammer correction. Vegas, well I liked it. I didn't crash one time while I was working on it. The color correction seems more vibrant than adobe premeire. With adobe though, you get more options to tweak the image. But for right now, Im opting for vegas! I'll defenity take everyone input into consideration while im reediting it.

I liked it. It gave me chills in a couple places, and that definitely means you're doing something right.
I agree with much of what's been said, and the first thing I noticed was the misspelling of "you're". I did think that a lot of the images were repetitive though. You used the shot of the girl sliding into the door at least three times, and it should probably only be used once.

Otherwise though, great work, and I very much enjoyed it. Had it been real, I'd have probably checked it out.

I really liked the CC and tone...but I think the TV simulator in Vegas was overdone. Just when you'd set up a creepy moment...the screen would flicker and snap me out of it. Nice compostions though. I'd see it.

Not bad visually. Take out the definition of Lucid, and those other definitions you put in there. Take out the red text that says whatever will this summer, put that at the end on a set background (maybe static, and then have it cut to one of your seemingly endless lunge scares.) And dont put the studio name over the footage, doesnt look right.

Pretty much the main problem is putting text over the movie footage. And when you do have that red text, take out the 1.) it doesnt fit.
