VaricamLT: LT in the Rain

So Monday I'll be filming golf all day, with scattered thunderstorms and an 80% chance of rain...If there's lightning I'm sure they'll get us inside, but if it's just light rain I don't think I'll be able to hide from it easily. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to get a real rain cover before the event, so I'm probably going to have to go the trash bag route...Has anyone been out in in the rain with the LT? How much of the body is weather sealed? Which parts should I make sure stay covered?

I have, but with a rain cover from camRade. But double transparent plastic bags should work, I think.

B&H has a Portabrace rain cover that I could pick up on Sunday. Leaning towards that. The camRade one isn't in stock at B&H though.

I'd be afraid of putting a trash bag over a camera today while shooting with it. They produce so much heat, it's unbelievable.

I've used Porta Brace rain covers for years. You can't go wrong. I despise shooting with any rain cover, but sometimes you don't have a choice. I'd never shoot with any camera in the rain without one.

In Vancouver we shoot with clear plastic leaf bags over the cameras all the time, and we're always in rainy conditions.

Also kind of curious to here about the differences between the camrade and portabrace. Pictures and info aren't great for either product. I'm leaning towards portabrace cause it's cheaper and I'm familiar with a lot of their other products. But definitely would love to hear thoughts. I've done the trash bag a few times for tripod and jib work. Now looking for something better suited for handheld. Are either of these safe in full rain?

I've been in pouring rain for hours with Porta Brace rain covers on my cams and they were safe, but the shell I was wearing was soaked.

A trash bag is fine as long as you don't seal it up so there's no airflow. As long as there's a little bit of air circulation the camera will be fine.

Ended up buying the Portabrace at B&H on Sunday. Of course, also ended up not needing it on Monday. It was nasty and overcast with dark clouds over North Jersey all day, but not a drop of rain. Crazy. Good to have it for future outdoor gigs though.

I got one almost immediately since it rains a lot here. It's a very good thing to have and very inexpensive compared to other accessories, but it's also extremly boring as a product. :)
