LP & SP: question with shotgun (DVX100)

They're identical, in terms of audio... and video. It's all DV-compressed video with 16-bit/48kHz audio.

The difference is in the tape speed. LP moves slower across the heads. Where this can impact you is in errors due to flaws in the physical tape. The faster the tape moves over the heads, the more tape errors are minimized in the data stream. If I remember correctly, I believe you also lose some of the FW-based tape control in modes other than SP. Use SP whenever you can, and unless you absolutely have to use LP mode.

+1 .. yes if you mix speeds on the same tape you'll have trouble spooling it.

Plus you'll very likely have strife playing your LP recorded tape on another player. Years ago The IEC introduced the Blue Book DV standard which incorporated the LP speed option on camcorders based on the 2 speed audio cassette, 15/16th and 1/78th.

So it's a gimmmick but videocam LP speed is used by bosses to catch staff stealing and private dicks use it to capture errant spouses. Brinks money trucks use LP speed recorders but they have a different type of shotgun. :kali:

Your shotgun can be used with either, the tape speed makes no difference.

Cheers.
