I am seriously looking into purchasing a Pan DVX100A in the next 2-3 weeks or so. If anyone has a place that they know of that lists a super low price for it please let me know. I have found one (DVX100A)for about $1799 at the link below. If you think this is too good to be be true - please, i am open to all feedback on this issue, give me your opinion. I have just heard horror stories with eBay users and other sources, and like everyone else, i don't want to get beat. Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

You should look to find a vendor that has the Magic Bullet for Editors package. All Panasonic US units come with this software. This tells you that you have a real US warranty. Any gray market does not have a warranty here and the customer will be charged for any repairs during the one year parts and labor.

I have had a number of calls this week from folks that bought from some of the gray market folks and I have to say that my heart goes out to them but my hands are tied. So help me help you should you need it. Buy from an authorized vendor for this product.

Thanks,

Jan

PS, Royal is not authorized.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

Thanks a million,

I will definately take that to heart when i am ready to make a purchase!

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

You cannot buy a DVX from a reputable, authorized reseller for less than about $3300. Any price lower than that is a red flag that you are about to be scammed.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

Hi Jan and Rush,

This question comes up a lot and the answers are always the same regarding grey market product. Would it be helpful to publish some guidelines on things to watch out for – questions to ask, something that defines the difference between a “grey market” dealer and a reputable one?

For many people on this forum, purchasing a camera might be there first significant purchase and it is very tempting to shop for the lowest price. When they ask this type of question and the reply is simply “if it sounds too good to be true, it is,” it gets confusing. Confused customers don’t buy anything.

Just a though.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

yeah.. you gotta buy authorized, that is the best way to be safe.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

shapulaski,
Go back further into this section - your question is covered in other threads. In addition to the issue of grey market is the issue of people who publish a price and there is NO WAY IN THE WORLD they'll ever sell it to you for that price. Read those threads.

Jarred,

How about becoming the Ralph Nader of the DVX world by doing a thread that stays at the top of the News section simply saying DVX BUYERS BEWARE or something, with a few statements about what to watch out for. While I think it's great we support EVS because EVS supports us, it may be best to have Jan from Panasonic write up something there - she's vendor neutral (i.e., that is authorized vendor neutral).

Keeping this at the top of the news section will prevent the ongoing creation of new threads in this section asking the same question.

Just a thought.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

Yesterday I placed an order with EVS for a DVX100a for 2 day Fedex delivery. Their dvxuser price was less than most non-authorized sellers on eBay, and Fedex 2 Day shipping was less than $50 with 25 DV tapes (i.e. some eBay sellers quote $100 for UPS Ground shipping). Plus, you get the free $299 version of Magic Bullet software! It's simply not worth messing around anywhere else. Give Tommy @ EVS a call and he'll set you straight!

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

What is authorized? I unknowingly purchased a piece of equipment from a “grey market” distributor; it was not even that much cheaper. It came in the manufacturer’s box, with all of the same equipment and manuals, and even a warranty card. It wasn’t until after I had a problem with it and sent it in for what I thought was warranty work that I found out the dealer that I purchased it from was not authorized to sell it in the U.S. even though it was the same exact piece of equipment and they were authorized to sell it overseas.

Apparently, vendors are charging different prices in different locations and distributors are then purchasing the equipment elsewhere, bringing it back into the U.S., and selling it for less. In an effort to keep the street price up the manufactures will not honor the warranty on this “grey” equipment. I don’t like this, however, I certainly agree with the need to keep the margins in the product so “authorized” resellers can make enough money to provide value added support. The manufacturers will have to police the distributors to make sure they are adding value and not simply fulfilling orders.

Personally I think that if Panasonic would provide a definition of what an “authorized” reseller is, and things we should be aware of on DVXuser.com, that would ad a great deal of value for people who are trying to sort this out for the first time. I will probably purchase my next DVX100a from Rush at EVS – not simply because most people on this site recommend them, but because of the way that they worked with the manufacturer and the customer to make sure that the people who qualified for the Magic Bullet promotion get it.

With the exception of this PayPal thing, you guys offer some real value on this site, so I find it odd when people ask for advice on purchasing the DVX100 there isn’t the same level of support as there is for the anamorphic adapter or the DVRig. ???

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

I've asked Jan a couple of times if they would just publish a list of authorized resellers. That way you could just look at the list and see whether your seller was authorized or not. Corporately, they don't want to do it. They want to enforce the find-a-seller-by-zipcode philosophy so it will inspire people to buy from their local store, rather than price-shopping on the web. But I think that's an outdated philosophy, *everyone* shops on the web now, and they should just bite the bullet and print a list of authorized resellers.

If they don't, maybe we can get an enterprising entrepreneur to go through their website, typing in every possible zip code and listing a list of authorized sellers... ;D

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

I agree with you, Barry. I would've had to take a day off from work and drive an hour to Minneapolis to find that I'd get a much better deal from EVS. No thanks. Dealing with Rush was absolutely painless (and actually quite enjoyable). I had my DVX 2 days after ordering and I got a great price. What more can you ask for?

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

EVS is authorized, but they're listed under the Pennsylvania(?) address, not the California address.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

Thanks Guys!

Ok for the beneift of others.. EVS is listed as an authorized dealer under the ZIP 19020.

Re: Lowest Price on DVX???

EVS is the place and Rush is your man, I just received my DVX100a today... Can't say enough good things about my experience with them! I was able to get superior service and an excellent price! Thanks EVS, Rush and DVXUser.com!!!!
