Lowest Barrel Distortion Wide Angle Lens Available?

Hi, all,

I'm currently using the century optics $600 .7x HD wide angle lens to shoot some interiors for a company. The only way to capture the entire room once you're inside it is to use a wide angle lens. Well, the client is complaining that this lens makes the doors look too tall and distorted. I don't think so at all, but she's the client. When I get close to a door frame, yes, there is some distortion, but not fisheye style, and that's only when I'm within a few feet of the door frame. Far away I think it looks fine.

Anyway, is there a wide angle lens for the DVX100a that someone is currently using that has really low distortion?

Thanks.

well, i also searched a lot for one. but the only thing that worked out good was a redrock m2 with a 17 mm lens. but since you are shooting inside, the next issue with the adapter would be huge light loss.

Depending on the software you are using, there are filters like Optics Compensation in After Effects which can help with exactly the problem you are having.

I have one more AG-LW7208 .8x wide lens made by Panasonic for the DVX. It retailed north of $600 when new. It is in superb condition and I would be willing to let it go for $185 if you are interested. I've sold my other wide lenses here on the forums. I used to have four of them. It is only a .8x so you would lose some wide angle but I think it is pretty good when it comes to barrel distortion. PM me if interested. This is a shot of my kitchen with it at the fully wide setting on a 100B.

The DVX has a bit of it's own barrel distortion at full wide, even without a wide angle lens adaptor attatched. So, some of the distortion might be coming from the stock lens, not the Century Optics. This may sound like defeating the purpose of the lens adaptor, but try nudging the DVX zoom in a little bit, 0 to 5 or 10, and see if that fixes it, or makes it better.
