Lower Thirds

Note: I have already searched Google.

Any thoughts on a classy way of doing lower thirds in Vegas? Do you know a good repository for static & animated lower third backgrounds?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Another note: I am not asking about 'free' backgrounds. If you know of a solid compilation which is your go-to adaptable lower third stockpile, I'm listening.

David, seriously... Do I need to state off the bat 'I have already searched Google, please give me a fair shake.'? If so, I will be glad to do so.

Let me restate... Does anyone have any links to solid repositories for well designed animated or static lower third backgrounds?

In regards to Vegas, the only limitation I've seen is in relation to the Cookie Cutter tool. Since you can't just define points like in other NLEs, you have to pick a shape (rectangle, oval, whatever) and then work within the parameters. So I can make a beautiful animated background using a few colors and filters, but then the cutting is limiting. There are workarounds but I am curious how others go about creating lower thirds in Vegas.

I didn't mean to be rude with it; it was just the simplest way of pointing you to resources.

It's why you want to use the bezier mask in pan/crop, because you can define the points any way you want and animate them. It's mentioned at a couple of the links the Google search I posted.

Yes, I am aware of alpha channels and know how to use them.

The bezeir mask! I don't know why I didn't think to use that.

I had CS5 and had planned to take a month off, learn and migrate but I got too busy in the winter. I'm considering doing it this summer. Currently have Vegas 10 & 11, Illustrator, Lightroom and for FX Magic Bullet Suite 11.

If you have more cash than time, http://www.videoblocks.com/videos/effects-and-lower-thirds/ has a great selection, especially if you want fancy animated lower thirds.

But if you only need a few still lower thirds, any graphics programs which can make .png files can do it.

Vegas can help with its masking/cropping tools if you want to turn a still or video into a lower third. And altering a track's transparency can also help with displaying either your own or prebuilt lower thirds.

I have a few Digital Juice "Editors Toolkit" volumes. Nice variety of animated lower thirds with separate alpha channels. Don't know if they still make these...worth a look.
Hope this helps.
