LOWER THIRDS - I need some inspiration

I'm finishing up a project for a client...and I'm really drawing a blank here when it comes to lower thirds. I'm getting tired of the same look over and over... some graphic bar comes out of the side of the screen, names fade in, or blur in...etc etc.

So I was wondering if anyone here had seen anything recently that approached lower thirds in an interesting way - For good or for bad. I'm just hoping to see something different seeing as my mind is totally blocked.

If anyone has any links to share...now would be the time.
I'm looking for some stuff to get me thinking in a new direction.

Thanks

It's a video for the Texas Nature Conservancy

nature.org

They have a banquet every year where they give out 'Conservation Leadership Awards' and I make short (3min) videos about the people who won - the videos are essentially made up of interviews from different people they know in the conservation field.

I've been doing these for about the past 4 years now...and I know I could easily do something similar to what I've done before...but it's getting boring for me. I'm hoping to do something different this time.

The one nice thing about these projects is its given me the chance to sit down and interview people I otherwise never would have been able to meet (ie. Lance Armstrong, Ann Richards, a lot of Texas politicians, Luci Baines Johnson (LBJ's daughter)).

If you're curious - here is last years video
It's a bit longer than they usually are - but you get the idea.

Basic interview/Broll
Except this year it's in 720 on the HVX

How about something like the sports channels, only instead of a ball spinning across the screen you have the Earth leaving a trail of leaves.

1. Find a picture of Sam Houston.

2. In Photoshop put the name & title of the subject on Sam's forehead.
Use blending modes to smoothly composite the text so it looks like a tatoo.

3. Bring the Photoshop image into AE and animate Sam from the bottom of the frame so just his head & eyes pop up. Similar to 'Kilroy was here'.

4. Don't forget to use easy ease on the key frames or Sam will come to an abrupt halt.

5. If you want to mix it up a little change the head to Stephen F. Austin.

good luck

Whoa ... I would say you "pulled a penguin" on this, pulling it out from nowhereville, but I haven't seen him around either so I can't say you'd even know him.

Otherwise, thanks for that link!
