lower brightness / exposure 1.5 stops

Hi all,
I shoot with the dvx frequently outdoors in bright sunlight.
I basically always use manual controls however I have been wondering lately if -

1. I am able to Lower the brightness levels so that the image has stronger colour and contrast without the faded look that can arise when shooting in strong sunlight.
2. Can I lower the auto settings so that I could shoot auto without the image being over exposed. I am referring to the 1.5 over exposure of the dvx during standard settings.

I use the ND filter and have a Polariser Filter, but I am looking for internal camera settings that will help. Just attempting to understand this camera in more detail as compared to my experience with the PD-150

Thanks
Sol

The menu setting you're looking for is A.Iris, in the scene file settings. It ranges from -4 to +4, and will bias the auto-iris system towards over- or under-exposure. Each increment accounts for approximately 1/3 of a stop, so at -4 you're getting somewhere around 1.5 stops of underexposure, and at +4 it'll deliver about 1.5 stops of overexposure.

Mildly underexposing video can lead to better-preserved highlights and more strongly saturated colors.
