LowBay35 Footage

This is my DIY adapter that I built for around $350. Most of the cost was in the Canon FD 1.4 lens and the Century Optics +7 diopter. Other than the CO+7, all the parts were puchased on Ebay and at Lowes....hence the name LowBay. I've done a lot of testing and redesigning but I think I'm done now so I thought I'd share my last test from my last redesign.......I hope :)

Very nice Depth of field.
How did you put the lense together?
I posted a tutorial here http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=51821
but since then I redesigned the adapter to use a single Century Optics +7 diopter with no cheap Asian brand optics. The improvement was outstanding. No chromatic aberations and sharp edges. My new adpater is also a little longer so I could get focus without the use of any additional close up lens. If you decide to build your own then just replace the macros I used in my tutorial with a CO+7 and add just a little more distance from the front of the CO+7 to the focus screen to get focus.

Thanks matt s. and TimurCivan. This was the first footage away from my yard and I found the adapter easier to use and less combersome than I had thought it would be. The extra weight is testing my Bogen 503 head, I may have to upgrade.

it cant be as heavy, as an SGpro with rails and a 2 pound 200mm telephoto, on a 501

Holy crap thats sharp footage. That looks incredible and thats with a aol CD cover?
I tried the Nikon Type D Screen, a DIY gg and a DIY wax screen. One day I was looking at a stack of the aol cd cases that they send in the mail that I've been keeping in my office for whatever and I thought......hmmmm....well, it's now my favorite of the 4. But.....I think that the sharpness is due to the CO+7.

Marlene,
Really nice work, looks awesome.

How does the grain, if any, look at full resolution? It's tough to see on a compressed file.

Beautiful work! What camera and what settings did you use? If AOL get's ahold of this footage. They might start making the AOL35mm adapter...

I wish you could see the quality on DVD. I have a large wide screen TV and I couldn't be happier!

dude, for a DIY that was amazing, how much did it cost you to make it? If it didnt cost more than $100, you should partner up with www.indiesnap.com and add it to the product line and sell it for $150. Theres a LOT of people that are too lazy to DIY and those results were exellent. I would consider buying it (im about to purchase the M2)

great location.good footage.I like the soundtrack as well, how much of a depth of field difference did the adapter make im wondering...?
have you tried rack focussing with heavy ND'ing without the adapter...?

Thank you for the compliment! I certainly couldn't produce and sell this for $150 since the CO+7 is a little over $200 alone. If you cheapen up on the macro optics then you don't have an adapter worth using. There are some really good professional 35mm adapters out there for purchase for a reasonable amount of money, Wayne Kinney's SGPro, the Redrock M2 and Quyen Le's Letus35 Flip for examples.

Thank you! I hadn't thought about doing a comparison of shooting the same scene with and without the adapter. I only have a grad ND so I'd be restricted to just the ND in the camera, or to test in a low enough light situation to be able to shoot wide open with the DVX. I'm inspired now to try it.
