Sometimes when you want to air your footage immediately (ie. for live streaming) I find internal audio levels waaay to low. -40db is the highest you can set (besides -50 and -60). Is there a way to combat this? (leaving manual for now, just discussing auto mode)
Sound comes from a shotgun mic usually, but last time I was doing live stream. Sound engineer gave me an output xlr from the mixer and to get to maximum level he had to turn it all the way up, almost to maximum (that's what he said). Am I missing some setting that is causing this?
Maybe he was sending you a mic level feed but your camera was set for line level?
A simple mixer should be part of your basic equipment package so you don't have to take someone's unknown feed and run it straight into your camera. For a few hundred bucks a mixer can solve a lot of problems and very quickly help diagnose what is going on. It also makes it a lot easier to ride levels when it inevitably becomes necessary.
