low light shooting with GH13

I just wanted to get some ideas on how people go about lighting night scenes with the GH1 to avoid the FPN. I've attached a screengrab from a Turkish film called Milk. It's not an exceptional shot by any means, but i'd like to shoot a couple of scenes lit similar to this. The key light appears to be a 3/4 backlight, which illuminates the talent and the fence. Behind the fence is more or less total darkness. If I were to light something in a similar way and had my 3/4 backlit key light as maybe a 2k, (which I would darken down in post), would the dark area behind the fence be super noisy or have the FPN? (This particular film was shot on 35mm)

I can't do too much experimenting because I'm renting the lights for the shoot. I'm living very rural... so it's about 10 hours of driving if I were to rent some lights from the city test them, so your ideas would be much appreciated.

It depends alot on what lens you are using. If it is f2.0 or less, you have good chances of making nearly no noise image using iso 200 puting de 2k light close enogh.

Im making a horror film that has also high contrast levels, and ive found that my 1.5k light is good for playing around at 6 meters distance, at low iso. Try to go to the highest dinamic rage youve got, and make some tryouts near your location with some plain light. You will get an idea of how much light you need.

Youll be ok!!

Good shooting!!!!
