Low light settings anybody?

I have a wedding to shoot tomorrow and am looking for advice on how to achieve the best low light on the HMC150. The last wedding I shot side by side on with a Sony FX1 and it seemed like the FX1 was doing better in low light. I'm not sure if it was the LCD brightness or what, but I was under the impression that the HMC150 should have kicked its butt in this department. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong. I had the gain maxed out at 12 and the shutter was at 1/30. Anything else I can do to help with low light? Thanks.

I had an FX1 and the HMC150 is better in lowlight... i do also use 12db and 1/30 shutter. Maybe it has something to do with your Picture Profiles, what are you using? also how much gain do you have on the FX1?

one more thing you can do, but it's more like a last option would be 18db. You will have to assign a custom button for that on the menu!

but check your picture profile first on the HMC... Did you see any of your images on your editing system? or you are coming to this results from the cameras LCD's?

I wouldn't use 18db.. `the hmc lcd has 3 brightness settings - check that also... (not that it would make brighter footage, but appear to be brighter)

150 is great at low light, if you can afford the difference lower the master ped a few marks and it will clean up the blacks...

~But... why not get some lights??

How did the wedding go?

I just shot the darkest reception ever this last weekend after thinking a reception I shot in August would be the darkest situation I would ever see, wrong.

Even though the 150 is one of the best low light cameras available, on-camera lights are mandatory for these situations. No camera settings will bring life & color to the image like some lights will.

You should research and pick a good high end light(s) for your future shoots. The people you shoot hate them, but you and the DVD viewer will love them. On a side note; at the reception this weekend I set up in a corner to shoot the well wishes to the B&G and a line of people formed. First time that ever happened. I think the light caught attention and one thing led to another with a moderate fueling by alcohol.

I shot in 1080P30, HDnorm, low knee, mostly flat including Mped 0 and chroma +2. Bpress may have worked better, but I have gotten in the habit of keeping simple basic settings to simplify things. Gain was on 12 and the iris was generally fully open or 1.7.

Forgot to mention, the photog had a LED light that was daylight balanced and I was using tungsten. It was a little troublesome, but the photog was really nice and didn't use it too much.
