Low light samples?

Totally been there. Totally done that.

Or go rent a Canon SD camera, like the GL2, and shoot everything a 1/15 (or even 1/8 when you do tripod) shutter, open aperture, and +12dB gain. It's noisy, but you'll probably get three to four stops lower than the HVX could.

Definitely have a camera-mounted light. And pick angles where your subjects have light on the background, so you can at least silhouette them, e.g. windows, the DJ/band, etc.

Thanks a lot everyone, I really appreciate your input. I do have a dvc60 the bigger bro' to the dcv30 and it does slightly better than the hvx in low light with gain ofcourse. I think I will use it for the indoor shots and the hvx for their photo shoot outdoors, trouble is.... the dvc60 is pal and the hvx ntsc. Which format should I shoot the hvx? in order to mix the pal footage on the same timeline?
Btw, can I crop 4:3 to 16:9 without the image looking strechted?
I use vegas 7 so any suggestions on this as well will be very helpful.
Thanks!

Most night shots in feature films you see have 10s of thousands of watts of light illuminating the scene.

allot more than that, just finished a universal shoot were we lit the scean with 4 50ks, 2 20ks, and 2 12 lite maxis. this was during the day under a awning at a hotel in tucson az
