LOW light problem

I am thinking of purchasing P2 camera, asked for a demo unit to try it out.
I was a bit disappointed, due to the camera could not get bright enough in the low light situation :undecided. I am a sort of event camera man, shooting VIP & news stuff, as you know, i could not get extra lights during the events.
in addition, during the tryout, i noticed that with max iris & 12dB Gain, i found out that the video quality is very grainy. I really love the camera as in the future, i would also like to make my feature digital film. But now, i am stucked here, i dont know whether i should get this camera or look around. as my search, there is no other better product in the market. (comparing with all the aspacts, prices, quality, functionality etc.)

what should i do?

Well if you needed to go to +12db, then probably all 1/3´´ HD cameras will have problems with you low light. I suggest getting a SONY PD170. Those rock in such low light scenes. Or you rent another camera when you know the light will be terrible and use a HVX in all other situations.

NEVER use gain, unless you HAVE to. I wish they just removed the +12 db option so people wouldn't be tempted to use it. I have never seen or had to have used the +12 db gain and was satisfied with the results. This is the same way for every other prosumer camera I have ever owned.

Having done more years of weddings than I care to admit to, I'd go with the PD-170 for weddings, not the HVX. I'm an HVX freak now, but I also don't do weddings at all anymore.

Thanks guys, I think for safety reason, i will use my PD 150 for events and weddings, will purchase an HVX for feature film.
