Low Light Pixelation

Here's a screen grab from some footage I shot on the HVX on a DV tape. Gain was M, Cine V setting.

Why is there so much pixelation (look around the bass players strap)? Is this just the nature of the low light? Or can there be improvement with some setting changes?

Thanks for any help.

Try turning detail coring to + 3. That's enough. However, I don't see much problem on your footage... Except lack of focus.

What NLE are you exporting this still from? FCP?

I think we're looking at chroma stepping caused by the way the DV codec is converting 4:1:1 to RGB.

Clearly not typical of HVX image.

At first glance, it look like codec problem with the color. ( Like a 4:1:1or 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 problem...)

Never had this problem with Final Cut.

it was shot 24P. squeezed widescreen.

this still was an image export from Quicktime straight from the QT capture file. (captured in FCP)

If it's a codec issue, what would be the solution?

thanks for any wisdom.
