Low light performance

I wouldn't call the DVX a marginal low light performer and head to head tests against the PD-150/170 bear that out. If you're looking for the absolute best low light perfomance in the 1/3" 3-chippers than the PD-150/170 is the better choice, but not by much.

The XL2 took a hit in low light performance with it's higher pixel density, but the HDX--who knows? Until it's out to run some tests, it's a lot of guess work. This group is a community of filmmakers, who are used to using lights, and I think the primary niche for the HDX is similar, so a hit in low light performance isn't going to kill sales. Depending on the hit, it may make the camera less popular for ENG and some DOC work, but ENG shooters certainly aren't the target market. I don't think the XL2 low light performance has significantly hurt sales.

Thanks for the response. I've only been looking at the dvx for a few weeks. This forum is really great for feedback from what appears to be a very satisified group of users.

I expect to be shooting a lot of my daughter, who is embarking on a singing career. I was wanting to do HD, but it appears that the 1/3" ccd systems, especially HD, won't be up to the task.

I'd love Panasonic to come out with a 1/2" ccd HD system for somewhere around $10K, which is a pretty sizeable uptick from the Sony Z1, so from a cost basis it has to be doable.

The only "affordable" low light systems out there today appear to be the 1/2" ccd SD systems.
