Hi guys, strange problem has arisen with my EX1R. It use to be great in low light. Then i gave it to a friend to use who changed some setting and now it sucks low light and i have to whack up the gain which is causing noise in my picture.

He doesnt know what setting he changed and i cant figure out either. I dont use AGC, so its not that. Could it be anything else in the TCLS menu? Please help, ive tried everything and nothing works. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?? Cheers.

Since nearly every setting affects the way light is handled (it is a camera after all), your going to have to go through a process of elimination.

Simple things first. Make sure your ND filters are off. Make sure an ND filter hasn't been screwed on the front.

Shutter speed. A fast shutter doesn't have time to admit much light.

Turn your picture profiles on and off to see if he changed something in the PP for bright light.

Do you normally use auto iris? Turn it on and off.

All the settings for white, knee, black, gamma, etc affect the way light is used.

As a last resort it seems to me I saw something in the menu about reset to default.

Let us know what you find.

If I had to guess, if it's THAT dramatic of a difference in lighting, he probably cranked the shutter speed up to 500 or a 1000, maybe even 2000. Obviously the ND filters would darken it too but that goes without saying.

Thanks guys.

ND filter - off
SS - off
He didnt touch the profiles
Iris is on manual

So im still at a loss. I presume if a do a factory reset I'll loose all my pic profiles?

Turn the Picture Profile to off. You say he didn't touch them? If this changes he did.

Have you viewed your footage on a TV or just the LCD screen? Fiddle with your LCD brightness settings and after that don't trust them for exposure again ;-) Is there an LCD Backlight switch that was turned off by mistake?

If you are using manual IRIS then TCLS shouldn't affect exposure.

I would write down/type your picture profile settings and do a factory reset if all this doesn't work.

Good idear on the lcd brightness switch. I inadvertently switched mine off once and was freaking out how dark my lcd looked until I realized what had happened.

Thanks guys.

You didn't check the rest of the things that I told you.

As Buck and I both pointed out, check the shutter speed. If they set a very fast shutter (A La Crank 2) it will be dark.

Forget listening if he touched the picture profiles, he doesn't know. Turn them off. If it changes then he did.

Check the LCD brightness switch. As I recall its under the handle.

As I said, reset is a last resort. You haven't exhausted the other things yet.
