Low Light Decisions

If you knew you were going into a low light situation that couldn't be changed, to minimize noise would you

A) Increase the gain on the HVX during the shoot
B) Shoot at normal gain on the HVX, and raise the gain in post (FCP, etc.)
C) Something else, maybe a combo of A & B

neither. both would increase noise. crush blacks in post.

I guess I meant to say, in a situation where you NEED to do one or the other in order to lighten up the scene. Which adds less noise/looks better?

I've been very curious to what the best settings are in low light. I have some stuff changed in my scene files but what are the best settings?
