Low Cost LANC focus?.

Markertek.com is selling a lanc CAMERA CONTROLLER for $38.99. Would this work with the 100A?
The plug appears to be mono on the controller and I think the DVX takes a stereo. Any experiences?
It says this thing will control the focus too. Would that not be a handy thing for an assistant doing follow focus, rather than touching the camera itself?

Appreciate any thoughts.

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

Wow... even if it can't focus the DVX (I don't know of a LANC that can... I'm probably wrong though), if it can record/stop/zoom for less than $40, it seems like a GREAT deal!

Anyone?

Justin

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

No remote controller will ever be able to control focus on the DVX. There is no provision in the connector for focus control. LANC protocol includes focus control, but the DVX doesn't use LANC and its port doesn't provide for focus control.

The only type of remote focus controller that can ever work with the DVX would be a gear/motor system that physically turns the DVX's focus wheel.

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

Why doesnt someone just design an affordable focus puller for us! Damn it! Now im mad again. Can you imagine an affordable (non century price) and advertising on this site? Dudes, I imagine quite a lot of us would pick one up.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

There has got to be a solution. I'd pay a good one for something like this (century rapes) and it is such an important part of the 'filmaking' process. :'(

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

I'm with John. I want it all and I want it cheap and I want it to be good quality.

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

John, man, just step forward and do it... get someone with a CAD program, design it, then contract it out to China to build you a thousand pieces...

Isn't that basically what Jarred did with the batteries? And he's able to offer batteries that are half what anyone else charges...

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?

I'd buy one! Hell, I'll even pay good money for it too.

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

OOOOHH yeah. I'd buy one. Would it really be possible with a CAD program? I, myself, don't have the brains for that kind of stuff.

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

I am really good with Auto/turbo CAD, I took it in college, though I would just need the software and someone who knows a bit about what we'd need in terms of FF - I would love that project!!
I'll work on getting the software, hopefully soon.
Let me know,
Aza

I would love to work with someone from this site, ya know - keep it in the family, like the Armenians do ;) LOL

Re: Low Cost LANC focus?.

Thanks for the pics Terry, that's a great place to start! I just ordered a digital measuring caliper from ebay  :) hopefully will get software soon (any leads?)

I just created an email account for anyone who wants to send me info, though it is a hotmail account (works with my Outlook Express)  check it out:

dvxaza@hotmail.com smooth, eh?

also keep in mind, though I do check everyday, it's only a 2MB account - nothing too big, though I will be cleaning it and archiving and such.

I won't be able to design from pics alone, though - I will at some point need a physical model, or pieces to measure completely.

If anyone wants to work with me on that, let me know. Especially pertaining to contracting, manufacturing, gearing, etc.
On the downside, (upside for cashola) I am going to be going out of town for a month this coming Sunday (6/20/04); I'm going on the road, though I'll prob. be able to keep up on the site via dial-up (shoot me now).

Hope I can do right by all.
