LOW budget promo video

Did I mention the budget was low? Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think. I think the weakest part are the interviews, and we hope to get better interviews at their next presentation. Fun project to work on, I hope you like it. :cheesy:

well, it doesn't look that low budget walt....... looks pretty good.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm happy with it, and will be happier still when we get some stronger interviews ....

This is well done; and kind of cultish at the same time.

I think yuou did them proud; some hot spots in some places during interviews but it's forgiving with the subject matter and the 'buzz' created in the subject matter I think. Besides a few overexposures on these the lighting does look well done.

Nice job!

Thanks John. They are happy with the video. I appreciate the comments on the lighting - it is one of my biggest weaknesses right now. Somthing That I've been trying to develop and get better at.

Ryan, I'm right across the river from you ... love seeing local folks on here! This is a rough cut, right? I'm asking because there's a cut that needs serious attention during Josh William's interview ... everything comes to a screaching halt, then continues on with a change in music sync (like it starts over), etc.

At the VERY ending, I'd either run the music all the way through, fade it more evenly to the very last frame, or cut it sooner ... the fade/timing feels off when it cuts to only the narrator's voice.

Otherwise, great job and it looked good. Aren't most church/religious group projects low budget? The ones I've done have been practically zero budget, but there always seems to be some exposure that comes out of it so I can't complain.

Me too, it's fun to be in ccontact with other locals!

I'm not sure why this occurs. I think that it is a compression thing. In the original video (non compressed) it does not do that. I've been playing with the settings, but I haven't been able to make it go away in the web compressed version yet.

Thanks for the input, I'll try playing around with it some more.

Yeah, most church/religious stuff is VERY low budget to no budget. But the exposure is good, which is how I have landed most of my jobs - through referrals, and from people seeing my work somewhere.

Alright, you've inspired me to post my little church job ... no where near as cool as yours, but it's made a few people cry. http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=34414

It'd be cool to swing by & connect next time I wing through Gresham, which is at least 2x a week.

On a VERY funny note (at least to me), when I first saw your avatar, the name Walter stuck ou to me ... so I was reading your post thinking you were Walter Graff, the lighting guru ... it was only AFTER I read you stating lighting is a weak area for you that I thought "What the heck?" ... then, OH!

Thanks for sharing. I liked your selection of music, it fit the piece well. I can see why people cried. It is a very touching story.

Yeah, that would be great. I got your phone message as well. I'll call you later this afternoon. I'm in the middle of editing another project right now. (I come over to DVX for breaks now and again...)

Well after playing with the compression some more I finally figured out that the audio problem does not occur if I compress straight from FCP. So that problem is fixed, and I played with the ending music. Check it out:

VERSION 2

Ryan, I've tried to check out the new video, but for some reason this was just has a nice looking Q with a question mark in the middle of it ... no video/audio plays. I've got Quicktime Pro7 installed on my PC, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

K, I hit refresh in the browser and it worked.

MUCH, MUCH better. Liked the lower thirds you had for the attendees, and how the music/film ends. Good stuff.

The ONLY two minor notes I'll make are these:
You can tell RIGHT before Josh's interview starts that you've spliced the music ... work on timing that just a hair better ... barely off, but noticeable ... maybe because I was listening for it.
You've handled splicing Josh's interview together well, but if you wanted to avoid SEEING the video transition/cut, perhaps throw a few seconds of video over him to hide the cut ... that way we're seeing what he's talking about. Otherwise, it's fine as is.

Great improvement, Ryan, thanks for sharing. The QT compression looked great as well.
