low audio on external mic inputs

I'm having trouble with the levels of audio in on the external inputs. I've tried several mics-Sennheiser ME80,AKG c451 ,Sennheisser MD421. The levels are very low compared to the internal mics. The levels are so low as to be only usable by copying them 3 times in my editing program. any help would be great.

any other info like what is the preamp for the mic inputs gain on the DVX? In my post ,I'm using small diaphram condenser mics and a dynamic and both are giving really low levels on input. Has anyone had this problem or am I missing anything as in a setup menu or is an external mic pre needed?

You don't need a preamp for microphones. Read the manual for settings. There is a button for mic/line on the front and behind the display you have settings for 48V and track select
