Low audio level on hmc150

Hello

I am a novice user so please bear with me.

I have an HMC150 and I am using a Sure sm11 lav microphone, input 2, on shirt collar. Even with the control knob turned all the way up, the audio level is very low -24db as displayed in FCP.

Is it possible I have something set wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

The SM11 is a dynamic mic (most lavs are condensers), so it can be harder to record a good level with it. It's also heavier and larger than most lavs, which makes it harder to get a good level with when shooting, because its weight and size make it droop away from the sound source. Using a better lav next time is advised.

For a good lower cost lav mic, you might want to take a look at the OST-801 lav mic which is a clone of the TRAM TR-50 lav mic, and sells for less than $100. Use their contact page to ask OscarTech to send you a price list.
