what's the best way to get really low angle shots that are steady and at an appropriate angle... i asked about table top tripods at samy's and the guy reccommended one that was like 34 dollars that seemed like the lowest it went was 7 or 8 inches.

what do you guys use? reccomend? what do the pro's with film cameras use?

about the pod... can you get good angles with it? does it hold the angle you want? is what i'm asking... what other applications have you found it useful for?

do you have any footage posted using this that i could see?

that looks pretty perfect, i just wonder cause they are all still cameras

thanks

I have a lot of experience with the Pod, and I'd say it holds position pretty well. One really usefull application I used it for was when my school wanted a near bird's eye view shot of a program, but the best they could do for me was to provide a poorly constructed wooden ladder, up which I hoisted my 300lbs butt with DVX in hand. I couldn't get my bogen up there, but the pod steadied everything pretty well. Highly recommend it just as a usefull tool for those weird days.

The pod is nice, but just dig out a couple of good old fashioned sandbags. A 20lb size to nestle the cam inbetween the two bag sides, then a 5-10lb size to prop the camera up to the angle you need the shot. I've done it myself with the DVX and have seen this a ton of times with film cams.

For low angle shots I made a "TurnPod" from an obsolete turntabel platter. It's quite easy and extremely useful.
You will find some pictures here (scroll down):
By the way, the Spiderbrace also lets you shoot from low angles.

Real pros dig holes on the ground (and fit the whole camera crew there) or make a big hole on the floor...

How about using a good quality mirror??? Just flip the image in post.

Those would work great

I usually just use a little 'beanie bag'.

Id go with this... I have one not intended for any sort of camera use... just found it laying around.. now its in my kit :P I think its actually one of those bags your meant to put in the microwave and use for sore mucsles etc. Other than that a pillow case with a bag of rice emptied in it and tied of. You can just about get the cam to sit stable in any position. I also have pistol grips and a sholder mount that are adjustable so depending how far I am from the kit etc just sit on the ground and adjust the grips and shoulder mount.
