Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

Mark,

I only took a cursory look at your file but looked at the other one on your site and it's very beautiful. Very stylized and tasteful. I like your style and editing. You have a great deal of talent. Your clients are getting something special when they work with you.

Keep up the good work...

That was a very heartfelt beautiful piece Mark..Awesome awesome job...The shots of them around the big tree were really cute but my fav shot had to be the small bridge over the water...That was a pretty sweet shot. The colors and the footage came out really really well... Again Awesome job..Can't wait to see more!

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

NO WAIT!!! I was going to ask about the slowmo too... which editing system do you have? I noticed a bit of studder on the slowmo, but not as much as I get doing 24p stuff in FCP.

What did you use?

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

<<I was going to ask about the slowmo>>

FCP HD

Anytime you see studder is because Frame Blending was not turned on. I try to use Frame Blending little as possibble. Because when used, it will slightly soften the image removing some detail. It took me forever to figure out why my edited footage came out so soft and it was because of Frame Blending. So I would use it only when you need to or when lowering the speed below 50%.

Getting things smooth while shot in 24p? Good luck! Not an easy task here. If you know you are going to use slowmo on a shot, then make a scene file that shoots at 30p, this way you can get a little smoother result. Frame Blending will almost always need to be used on 24p or 30p footage.

I tried the Twixtor demo and I still got studder with 24p footage. I don't know if I had the plug-in setup right, but it was still jerky.

Its great editing and shots but it just seems so fake, not real. It just seems like acting and not real life.

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

ive used twixtor (pro version) but i think they call it "twixtor" cause it "twixes" your brain having to get it to work right.

you might want to look into a little app. called
"motion perfect"

at only 49.00 it does a heck of a job rendering slowmo with interpolated frames for most footage. its not very customizable, but most of the time it does just fine. and for 49.00 its sure worth it.. and very easy to use.

It looks like a nice plug-in, thanks for letting us know about it. Although it looks like there is no support for Macintosh or Final Cut?

Nice work Mark. You always do really nice pieces. Damn, when are you going to make a short!

As usual, the coloring, editing, comps are solid. Your clients are getting a good one.

Thanks John, you always reply to my posts.

I'm involved with a group of people that want to create films, we have plans to shoot our first short late July, this month.

Each one of us will have jobs, I am rooting for the DP position.

iamloser, have you tried the Steadyhand product from the same company?

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

nope , havent given it a try yet.  i have AE 6.5 pro version so ive got all my motion tracking needs covered. but more reasonable than  that , i have a vested stabilizer system,  track dolly, and practise alot for smooth handheld motion :) .. every now and then i have to pull some shot out of a hat, and need to stabilize something in post, but for the most part ive eliminated that need.. i hope :P

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

I do a lot of air to air footage where the camera and background are all in motion, AE and flame don't track it very well and a good wescam gyro mount costs about $2800/day. Most of the shots look good, like everyone here I'm hoping to find that inexpensive little app that will save me money to make a good shot great...

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

I just starting up to do wedding videography, It's great to see the amazing video that can be achieved with the dvx, from looking around at what others are doing with weddings, your work is quite a few notches above the rest. Great footage. P.S. How do you convince your clients to do the things they do with your montage's. Like I say I'm Just started and from the people I've worked for they've all been terribly nervous around the camera.

Oh ya, and what do you use for recording your audio, sounds crisp. I have a couple mini disc's with lav's which work great. I like a shotgun if I can get close enough, but I didn't see any lav's on your clients?

Re: Love Story Video for Wedding Couple 2.

Thanks for the comments!

As for the couple looking "fake", that can happen at times. I try to make my Love Stories like Photography in motion, so yes they are directed to do what I say, otherwise it would all be candid and I would never be able to get the video to look right :-)

Thanks Nick. Just tell the client what to do, you call the shots, not them. When the couple arrvies at the shoot, they have no idea what to do, they are like frozen. Soon as you direct a couple of shots, then they get the idea and are usally comfortible. I've never had any problems getting couples to walk, kiss, hold hands, touch hair. Soon they will forget the camera is there. Don't rely on THEM to make the shot look good, you need to direct the placment. I usally talk while I am taking the shot - on the fly. i.e. "Joe, brush her hair a little", or "pull back slowly", "look into each others eyes".

Most of the time the client feels you are a professional so they trust you and do what you say. They want it to look good, so by listening to you they feel they will be better off.. somthing like that :-)

The audio is simple. There WAS a Lav mic on the girl, we tried to hide it as much as possible, we attached it on to her black top, blends right in. I can see it, becuase I took the shot, but most people will not. Just try and blend it in as much as possible.

The Mic was an Audio Technica AT831B (corded). Plugged right into the XLR Input #2. It always sounds great when I use it. Most times I need to boost it in post, no compression was used. You can find these mics or simulair ones on eBay for like $100.

Thanks again.
