I posted some screengrabs of this a few weeks ago.

Here's the rough cut (95% there) on Youtube. I'll post a QT download when it's finaled. Let me know what ya think as I'm still tweaking, etc.

Note: Any graphics on wall shots are placeholders. Graphic FX are currently being added in AE.

Cheers!

I'll eventually take this down and replace with the final, so this link won't be up that long.

LOVE IT. Has a GREAT european/artsy feel to it.

Wasn't this the one where someone suggested to leave a bit of color in certain scene's? if so, why'd you decide against it?

One thing I did notice, is that a few of the B&W shots near the beginning seemed a bit washed out compared to the rest. By choice? if so, I don't care for it... I prefer the higher contrast black and white... but that's just a preference, I guess.

Overall, I REALLY like it. And for once, I actually enjoyed the cuts on the beat, which is something I usually can't stand. great job, and looking forward to the final cut.

Yes RC, I'm gonna try a color version, but decided to stick to the original B+W plan for the first pass.

Thanks for that input. Yeah, I'm still tweaking the look. I've been battling with blow-outs in the highlights w/ pushed contrast. You're right, I'm not happy with that part yet in terms of contrast, etc., so good call. Still some work to do.:crybaby: Thanks for the feedback!

i like the lower contrast, looks more like old film and less like new video.
IMO low contrast looks like old french love movies, high contrast looks like new b&w or old german movies. (ex: M)

i think rcbrown and bionicpix are twins. lol sorry i had to say it

Awesome video and great song. Think you really achieved what you were going after hope that you got paid well and that she is stoked on the vid.

What did you do excatly to make it black and white just tweaked saturation settings or somethign else? Nice video!

I was never happy with making video black n white until I learned more about color grading. I found you can't just drop the B+W filter and expect it to look good. I grade each shot seperately depending on what it needs. Some of these clips have up to 6 or 7 filters on them. And where the B+W filter is inserted in the chain does affect it slightly. FYI: I use Vegas 6.

Mostly, there are (and roughly in this order): Levels, Black n White, Bright/Contrst, Color Curves, 3 Wheel CC, Color curves, Radiance Soft Contrast (adds some glow, too). A couple clips are sharpened. Not all have the Radiance (which is after market from VASST). I use the vectorscope and waveform monitors. Very helpful, as the issue of white blowing out is a big deal in these days of high contrast stuff. I could tone it down, but I tried hard to modernize the "old film" concept into a modern music video. Thnx for the feedback!

Yes, it was shot in full color originally. I actually plan on doing a color version next week just to see.

Looks amazing. I liked the French style and the black and white was beautifully done. However, I think the best part was the editing, it goes with the music very well and was just spot on all over. Great job.
