Lou's Place

Hey guys, I was hoping I can get some feedback before I turn this short into a final cut. I'm hoping to put it into some festivals. Let me know! Thanks!!!!

Hopefully our bandwidth stays fine and the loading doesn't take forever.

PS Theres a red glitch late in the movie, it's only on our web version.

I enjoyed it. I thought the writing was pretty good and the cinematography was top-notch. I do have to admit though, I found some of the acting to be sort of contrived, particularly the guy who got his head blown off and the drug addict. However, the story kept me interested, and I was consistantly impressed with the cinematography, so overall I liked the movie. I liked the end too, it wasn't the stereotypical happy ending, where the hero returns and his life is better because of the experience. Nice job. What camera/gear did you use for this? I really like the look you had.

well, well, well, let's see where can I start.
ok first: let me congratulate you mi friend because it is some pretty good stuff!

The baseball bat sound effect can use a little help :)

Another part where I think can improve is when they first spoke to the bar tender because of the audio detail.
For example, if the bar tender is facing the other way, (with his back facing the guys) than the voice should not sound so clear and up front until he turns around. The voice should sound like if he is actually facing the opposite way.

When Lou first starts talking to the fellas at the table, I would take advantage of the jukebox and add some ambient sound in a few parts that were "dry" (something very low and suddle) like a very low radio playing with no base, all tweeter to pretend is coming out of the jukebox.

I know in that kind of scene the light from the top is supposed to give it that mysterious feel, but I didn't really enjoy all the shadows where you couldn't see anyone's eyes as they were talking at the table in some of those scenes.

Also when the scene changes were happening at the table, the audio was sometimes humming or with a buzz and other scenes clean audio.

Nice cut into the poker table!
great quality,
great focusing,
Scotty's bathroom scene was great!,

Nice surprize at the end sure left me wanting to see more now that he was put in that perdicament.!

Good stuff thanks for sharing.

Lou:thumbsup:

Thanks for the reviews guys!!! I'll take your criticisms and try to make the short better!

We shot with my canon Xh-a1 with the stock lens, it really looked nice coming right out of the camera. I believed we used the VividRGB setting that most with the Canon seem to use so much. In post my cousin crushed some of the blacks in After Effects. I'm pretty happy with the look. But ya we did get those shadows over the eyes considering all we really used was the keylight hanging at the table. I kind of liked it and thought it added to the darkness of the place (not to mention ease with production), but I totally get why someone wouldnt like it. The eyes are the gateway to the soul eh? All the actors were local theater actors or just people who auditioned off the street. Small town here! I think they did quite good considering, though there were a few lines ya that weren't delivered right. I didn't get my reshoot day when I wanted to! Teaches me a lesson!

Thanks again. Peace
