Loud Zoom

As I have been playing with my new camera tonight, I noticed that the zoom is very loud. Do you guys have that issue too? Will it record it on the tape? Do I have a bad camera?

My zoom is not very loud, it's audible and I've got it on tape only in very quiet surroundings. I then avoid zooms ore swap the "silence" soundtracks in postproduction.
More problematic is the autofocus noise, as it's purring catlike all the time if switched on, there's a thread on that, too.

My camera clunks also ..... im sending it in for $2000 repair job, this is ok right? Plus my zoom kind of has to work so there is a noise when the zoom servo operates? Does this just happen to Australians u kno cause the camera is made in Japan ? Or is there non japanese who have kotaei? Panasonic wa nihon no kaisha desuyone. Minna wa wakaranai dusu! hu hu ganbarre. Minna wa wakaranai, HVX wa ikura desu ka? HVX tottemo yasui nihon naka ni. US no ikura wa baka dayone.

I guess you would have to understand Panasonic (and Japanese) to get what I am saying. Pana is Japanese u know.

Hello ncje,
no, the clunking doesn't only happen in Australia, it happens in the USA also; but of course it's the other way around in Australia: the clunking is counter-clockwise as opposed to clockwise in the USA and Europe in Oz and Aotearoa, something to do with the Earth's rotation....Southern Hemisphere something...

By the way, I think you are getting a bargain for $2000; I have heard many solving this problem for much more than that!
