Loud Grinding Noise From My Gyroscope

I have a DVX100A which I purchased in August of last year. The camera only has about 79 hours on it and now I'm getting a wierd noise from the gyroscope. It kind of sounds like a grinding - like it's rubbing up against something. The camera does not make this noise when it's in VCR mode. Has anyone ever had a similar experience with their camera? And if so, could you give me any idea as to what it might be and if I can fix it myself.

Thank You,
Luke

Hello Luke,

There have been two fixes for that. 1 - Lens replacement and 2 - Connection repair. Sometimes if there is an oxidized connection on the gyro ribbon you get some funny stuff happening including some grinding. Mostly it has been lens replacements. Panasonic was so kind as to supplying the lens without the CCD. This way it's under $600 for the part instead of over $1000. It took 3 hours of labor the last time we changed one out. We charge $85 per hour. This is worst case. If it's just connections, two hours and some cleaning would fix it.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you out with.
