Loud fan-like sound when powered on

I just turned on my DVX after sitting dormant for six weeks and there is a loud Fan blower-like sound coming from the camera. I keep it in a pelican case so it is dust free. The only thing I can figure is that it's the auto focus motor . The sound is consistant whether it's just powered on or if it's in record. It doesn't effect the functioning of the camera. It's just a loud blower-churning like sound that's extremely loud. It would definitely be heard on Mic. Any ideas or help. Thank you

I'd take it to an authorized service center and have them look at it before something goes really wrong with it.

Well, here's part two. After about fifteen minutes (or the battery went dead - I let it run for a while) I changed the battery and the sound was gone. Quiet as a mouse. Can't make it do it again. I appreciate the advice - take it to be serviced - but being in Los Angeles I really don't like to send my baby out if I don't have to. Anyone, know of an authorized service center in LA? Anyway, it stopped. Strange. I've had it just under two years and never anything like this. I was posting earlier to see if anyone else had a similiar problem and what the cause was. Thanks.

Well, Part three. Tried it again and heard the sound for five minutes then it went away. Turned it back on later and a warning came up "Warning! PSD NG" Does anyone know what that means? And yes, Horsefilms I will be taking it in :)

Yes. There are some bad connections on the lens assembly. What we do to fix it is re-seat all ribbon connections in the unit. When we do, we use a contact oil that Panasonic recommends to use and that usually fixes it. In a rare case, the lens may need to be changed out. Is is a DVX100P or a DVX100AP?

It's a DVX100AP. Are you saying that's what the warning means? What exactly is the problem? When you say bad connections what part of the lens assembly are you referring to - OIS, Auto focus? Because now the noise seems slowed and strained. What does it cost to change the lens out? Are you an authorized service center? Where are you located? Am I asking too many questions?

I forgot to say that if it's just bad connections it would only be about $170.00.

Spec-Comm, I'm really glad you're so knowledgable of the DVX and its problems. If my DVX ever malfunctions, I'm going to you guys for help. lol

Do you happen to do any like servicing for the cam to 'clean it up' and what not?

It's our life. Thank you for the compliment! We have a routine maintenance procedure. Two hours of labor ($170.00). It's almost like having your car detailed. We clean every square inch of it including replacing old grease in the mechanism. We also perform all of the lens adjustments and mechanical adjustments to make sure everything is in spec.

Hey, that's good news. I'm glad you hang around here, Andrew. Without you, these conversations would go something like this: "I don't know, kick it a few times and see if the bad noise stops."
