Lots of dropped frames?

I've just started trying to do captures from the DVX to my computer, and am using Vegas 5.

I go in through DV and generally get a very good picture, but when I try and capture it drops frames. However, on my LCD it doesn't seem to have dropped any frames, which means its somewhere between the DV connection and my hard drive.

Is there any settings within vegas which could be causing this? I've never had a problem capturing from DV before and have a pretty solid rig to work on, but am brand new to Vegas which makes me think it might be the problem.

Any advice?

Re: Lots of dropped frames?

I captured using the DVX a couple times (out of necessity) and it dropped frames in Vegas 5. Haven't used it to capture since. No dropped frames whatsoever when I use my other MiniDV camera to capture. Give it a try. You should be using a deck or cheap DV cam to capture anyway, especially if you use your DVX a lot -- saves on head wear.

If that's not your problem, make sure you defrag as Pookie suggested. Are you capturing to a drive that spins at 7,200 RPM? That is a must. And ideally your capture drive would be a separate physical drive from your the drive your OS/programs are on.

Good luck!

Also, if you have programs running in the background like virus protection, disable.
