Lost - The Final Season Thread

so are they all dead in the sideways? everyone eventually dies in the on island timeline and moves to the sideways timeilne? is that how we are all looking at it?

the flash-sideways is actually a "flash-forward" to everyone's time in some sort of purgatory. i think.

It's what they said. It's long after the events on the island, after everyone died. Not necessarily on the island.

The events on the island did happen.

The events on the island did happen.

They were just irrelevant to the resolve/conclusion of the series :)

I think I would have actually felt better if lost were cancelled at the end of season 3 for some reason leaving us hanging with "we have to go back"... b/c that's how I feel... we have to go backkkk :)

yeah, i'm glad they finally answered that huge question that's been bugging me since...the beginning of this season. good joke guys! time to actually answer stuff about the island, not stuff you just made up

I stopped watching after season one. I assumed they'd eventually have Patrick Duffy step out of a shower and...

...guess I was wrong.

This sounds worse.

I would have brought that up but I wasn't sure there were enough here old enough to remember it was just a dream...:Drogar-Happy(DBG):

I'm sure it'll be 'tubed. It was actually a waste of Newhart, though. But when they said "INT. BEDROOM," I knew exactly where they were going.

I feel like I've just waisted 6 years of my life.

I'm gonna have to agree with this sentiment.:grin:

I'm not getting invested in episodics on a grand scale like I did with Lost. I half-heartedly stuck with it this season. But really by this point, it was like a 20 chapter book that I read 19 chapters....screw it, I guess I should just finish the book. The final scenes were emotional, IMO, even if they really didn't go anywhere.

Really enjoyed the first few years, but progressively, I wasn't into it.

I feel the same way.

The ending scenes (for what they were) were done very well and did what they were supposed to do emotionally, but as far as the story goes, they dropped the ball. But they dropped it a long time ago. They wrote themselves into a corner and we all knew there was no way they were going to answer all the questions with what little time was left for the show.

I guess I still enjoyed most of the series. I remember how quickly I was sucked in right from the beginning. I've always liked The Twilight Zone for its intriguing writing, but even the episodes that lasted an hour were a little too long. Most of those stories could have been told in the standard half hour.

So, six years to wait for an ending (let alone a resolution)? Yes, too long.

My wife was crying when the dog sat down next to Jack at the end.

But not me. I'm all man, baby! (It was a nice scene. At the very least it wrapped up the episode nicely.)

OMG!

My girl totally cried too. And she was like, "That's so f*&^ing cheap!" because she knew that she was crying because of the reality of the image -- a dog lying next to a man who is dying. That image has profound impact, especially for an animal lover, but it wasn't the fact that Jack was dying that was at all moving. It could have been any single character who had ever appeared on Lost and that image would have been equally moving.

She was right -- cheap trick.

I don't think Lost was a waste of time, though. The first season, IMO, was one of the best seasons of network television ever made. It will forever rank in my top ten best single season of all time, and I think Lost as a whole sits somewhere underneath X-files, which also ended badly.

I can't site any examples offhand, but my wife also said that Vincent always came around when one of the characters was about to die. He was kind of like a death omen, albeit a cute one. Thus, a fitting ending that he sat with Jack in his final moments.

I only jokingly agreed that the show was a "waiste" of time. I just don't think that myself now (6 years later) with wife & kid will have the time or interest to devote to a show like this.
