Lost - The Final Season Thread

The Cylon Plan is why the war happened. It was all about what the Cylons wanted. It was supposed to be their raison detre in the show.

But it IS a good parallel to the DHARMA Initiative, because DHARMA turned out to be superfluous interlopers having nothing to do with what was really going on, whereas they were initially presented as crucial to the central mystery, if not THE mystery.

See the reason I kept watching was to see what would happen to the characters... over all I got a lot of closure on that... except for Starbuck (she just disappears?)

What I'm saying is that it might have been their reason, but it wasn't MY reason for watching the show. That's why it didn't feel as disappointing.

Well, there are plenty who watched Lost just to see what happened to the characters. I'm just talking about how the shows were presented. BSG absolutely promised a mystery was being revealed, with clues along the way.

Moore & Co obviously knew they made a promise they didn't keep, so they produced The Plan to make up for it. It wasn't especially good, and they should have taken care of it within the show itself, but they did acknowledge it.

Maybe, but with the "god" ending, every character was a mere pawn, with little control over anything. Their struggle was meaningless, because it was going to end up the way it did anyway, as part of "god's" plan. And it was especially meaningless because they made it clear at the end that our Earth was going to repeat the cycle yet again. Nothing accomplished, nothing learned, no point. At least none that we're privy to.

And thus it is with the island.

EPIC FAIL!!

No, seriously epic.

I swear, is Buffy the only dramatic show in history to end it at the right time with the right script? Even X-files botched everything at the end...

Look: I will give the creators the HUGE benefit of the doubt with regards everything pertaining to time as it existed in the "sideways" flashes (what we now know as "dead" flashes). To watch it as anything chronologically would be a mistake. Hurley had to have been the last to die, but who cares. The BIG, ENORMOUS, UNFORGIVEABLE issue is that these characters -- all of the characters who ESCAPED somehow had NO EXISTENCE after the island. Claire's kid? Gin and Sun's kid? Really and truly no one had any sort of life whatsoever after they left the island? There is literally NO ONE else in their heaven world besides these guys they met on a plane? Syed is now pining for that chick from forever ago and not the love of his life???

Wow...

And what's worse is that this alternate universe, this death dream, had no choices or consquences -- it was literally a bus terminal. And in the bus terminal of your dreams you're morbidly obese or divorced or a criminal? Seriously? And what would be the point? Why would "god" have this whole new universe for you to wait around in? Christian said that THEY'D made "this place". Okay, isn't that something that should have been at least touched on at some point over the last six years? Could they at least have had Hurley *create* somewhere for them all to go?

Oh, but wait, he couldn't -- BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE DIED ON THE ISLAND!

The ONLY way it could have worked is if EVERYONE died (e.g. the plane crashed and didn't make it). Then it would make sense that no one except for pre-island life would matter.

And then did you hear that gaffe in the special before the show? How one of the creators said that the hydrogen bomb exploded?

Ummmmmm...yeah, Juliet would have been atomized.

Just goes to show you that you can ask lots of cool, bizarre questions, but if you don't answer any of them all you did was bait and switch your audience. Pretty lame and equally twisted.

I mean, maybe even remotely explain how anyone knows what Desmond is supposed to do or what it is he's doing or why Flock and Jack BOTH want him to do it?!?!? Even if Whitmore told Flock (in a whisper) what Desmond was supposed to do, why would Jack also know what to do -- why in the world would he be helping Flock????

ANd what was with that STUPID big cork thing???

Seriously???

And what about that pool that turned black and saved Syed?? Was that water from this thing? Because this thing still had clear water -- it didn't care that Jacob was dead. And the big statue? Any explanation in any regard???

AND WHY DIDN'T JACK HAVE TO BLESS THE WATER?!?!?

Ugh....just too much failing to absorb.

So, so, so, so, so bad and disgraceful. The first season was awesome. Absolutely down hill from there.

Jesus.

Wow...we actually agree on something. It must be bad. :)

Buffy actually ended at the close of Season 5. They didn't know they were getting another season. So especial kudos to them for making last two and the ending of season 7 pretty good.

And of course, the show continues in the comics...

Thankfully, yes. Would have been a bad ending. Season 5 was . . . not good.

Anyone else think of Spock in Wrath of Khan when Jack sacrificed himself by carrying that heavy rock back into the light hole thing-a-ma-bob?

Doesn't the fact that this thread has spent more time talking about other shows, rather than lost kind of sum it all up? :) One of the most anticipated finales of recent memory, and there just isn't much to say about it...

I liked the episode. But not as a finale. I have nothing to watch now. Spartacus is shooting and lost is gone. I guess I need to catch up on Breaking Bad.

Yep! I own all the graphic novels. I buy the comics as they come out and then give them to my sister when the graphic novel is released.

And I remember Whedon pretty clearly in the press saying that they felt that season 5 would be a good wrap for their time on the WB. They knew long before they'd wrapped that they were being picked up by UPN. Angel was a bit in flux at the time (but then Angel was always in flux -- talk about a wasted first two seasons???), but as I recall Buffy was in good shape headed over to UPN.

Is Star Wars Clone Wars on anymore?

(stupid Lost)

I stopped watching when Michele Rodriguez got killed, it was like, "come on now, pulease."

The show was built around "mystery" from the beginning, but the ending really had a weak explanation of where is here and now, we are all going together.

I love the idea of the 'cluster' that we travel in lifetimes with a group of people, that spiritual quality I was there.

But to put an audience through one mystery after another and not have satisfying resolution, nah, I'm glad I stopped watching.

I quit watching after the first season, which I loved. I missed quite a few episodes the second season and it was just too much work catching up. I figured I'd get my answers someday when a series finale was broadcast...boy was I wrong. Now, I don't feel so bad for missing things after season one.

I feel like I've just waisted 6 years of my life. It went from favorite show to hating the show learning that they were just all dead the whole time?!??! ARG! That's what they come up with?? Are the writers even thinking?

I thought something amazing like locke comes back to life, fights real locke or something. Remember season 5 finale Ilana asks Richard, What lies in the shadow of the statue? and richard says in latin, The one who will save us all? wasn't that supposed to be lock or something? locke was special and it seems he just died for nothing. I'm so incredibly mad at the writers now.

so did they die when the plane crash happened in the pilot? If so that wouldn't make any sense like how in S4 finale they all get off the island and everyone misses them as if there really was a plane crash??

They didn't answer any big questions for us. what's the island? why can't pregnant people have babies on the island? why is walt special? what exactly is the flash sideways? explain claire getting pregnant twice (island and flash sideways)

I just think the writers really bombed the finale. It was going good until fake locke died. I was feeling awesome then he died and the flash sideways was not getting anywhere and it all went down to nothing. Almost like the flash sideways to me felt like it was a big chunk of nothing that didn't need to be there.

No, they didn't say they were all dead the whole time. The opposite, actually.

Though I did think they were setting up Jack to be the new smoke monster.

so are they all dead in the sideways? everyone eventually dies in the on island timeline and moves to the sideways timeilne? is that how we are all looking at it?
