Lost my best friend today.

Even though he was fairly old for such a big dog (12 yrs) his death came about quite unexpectedly today.

He was the greatest and he'll be missed. There will never be another like him. :(

RIP

Wow. that sucks. sorry to hear that. My doggie is 9 and I can't imagine "that time". But when it is "that time", I hope its a bit unexpectedly, rather than a drawn out deal with several visits to the vets.

You must be going through hell. sorry.

His name was Nova. He was named that because of his eyes.
It's hard to describe but they looked quite cool.

Thanks for the well wishes.
It all happened pretty fast today and we had to have him euthanized in the end.
Very rough.

Mike

I lost 2 in the past few years. I sat with one, watching the lights go dim in her eyes. The other one had to be put down by my brother while I was at (of all places) NAB.

I feel your pain buddy. THere is nothing like the unconditional bond you make with a dog.

Although I don't know you, I am sorry for your loss. A really good friend of mine says that pain is pain. As humans, we try to classify some pain as harder than others. But in the end, pain is pain and it all hurts.

The older I get, the more I think she's exactly right.

Sorry man. Praying for comfort and peace for you and those around you.

Michael--sorry for your loss. Almost exactly two years ago, I had to put a cat I'd had for twelve years to sleep, so I know what you're feeling. If it helps, although you're right in saying that there will never be another one like Nova, if you choose to bring another pet into your life, you will find all new reasons to love him or her.

It's unfortunate how so many people view dogs as nothing more than an accessory to the house rather than individuals with a personality and a soul who are a member of the family. You're right and you're certainly not alone. Lost two of my best friends in '04 and '06. To this day I cannot believe how incredibly fortunate I have been. Not one single day has gone by.

I put down my Rottie girl a year ago because of bone cancer.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about her and the joy she bought to my wife and I.

My condolences.

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds;
my other ears that hear above the winds.
He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea.

He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason
for being by the way he rests against my leg;
by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile;
by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.
(I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not
along to care for me.)

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.

When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he brags.

Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful.

He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion.

With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace.
He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.

His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and
unknown things.

He has promised to wait for me...whenever...wherever--
in case I need him.
And I expect I will--as I always have.

He is my dog.

Oh man! Drag!

Look at Nova in that picture! You can tell he was a happy guy and really enjoyed hangin with you all those years. It's a sad day, but mostly because it's the end of a wonderful journey. I'm sure Nova would say he's sad to go also, but he wouldn't trade his time with you for anything in the world!

Take care Michael!

Quite a few years ago when I was In School, my dog deteriated badly. She couldn't walk, started slouching over randomly. Couldn't breathe. Several trips to the pets, apparently we couldn't afford private health care then. She turned out to have the same end-game problem my grandfather did when he passed away.

She got put down by my mother in the middle of an operation over the phone, very emotional. Unfortunatly I don't know / don't think we 'got her back' afterwards. Always bothered me.

A pet's love is a families love, and any kind of love is hard. It's no different to loosing a relative. Thinking of you & your family in these sad times. Nova was a beautiful name, and I know that's going to stick in my mind for a long time.

These threads are always hard to respond to. Lost a couple dogs myself. I still miss them. That never changes.
Good memories that stay forever.

This 'aint gonna' come out right... but the loyal devotion combined with the short life-span of dogs is a good way for us to better appreciate patience, love, friendship, and all the unique qualities of those around us... who are there for us on this little ride.

Remember to look for the beauty in life when and where you can... it's fleeting for everyone... dog and man alike. Let the attentive nature of your dog inspire you to be caring and attentive to those around you... and... when your ready... get another dog and look for the unique beauty in him/her.

Until you reach that time... try to be happy for the joy your friend brought to you... and realize how fortunate you are for the many great years together.
