Lost In Time: Last Minute Help Please

Maybe years ago many of you were at this same basic point: I just realized I spent time learning how to run camera, but neglected Time Code and its possible impact on future editing. I found on p145 of Barry's book info on TC Preset. So for my vacation beginning tomorrow it looks like I have two options:

(1) for each new card I load on this vacation I can "force" preset to 00:00:00:00 and that would be like I used to do with each new tape I loaded--NLE will see each card as going from 0 to wherever it ends or :

(2) for first new card I load at start of vacation I use TC Preset to "force" all zeros and then leave TC Preset alone for each subsequent card I load in-- that way NLE will read my first 8 GB card as 0 to 45 minutes (approx) and second 8 GB card will show 45 to 90 minutes and so forth (assuming default PH 1080 60i setting).

Is that right ??? And will NLE "prefer" one method over the other??

I think I am in pretty good shape to use camera for vacation other than this "newby" TC question. Thanks in advance for help, Dennis

By the way, my main concern at this point is that I don't do something wrong with Time Code and thereby create problems when I edit the footage I am shooting on vacation. Finally I am at a location where scenery is really displaying what HMC40 can do and I am very impressed (although I am still mostly using full auto to minimize doing something wrong and not capturing great scenery--am doing manual white balance).

I have found camera does not display "Clip" counter (probably need to activate some menu setting, but I don't miss Clip counter) and pushing "reset" button on camera resets Counter to zero. I have read that if I am in TC Preset in menu pushing reset button will reset TC to all zeros, but have not done that.
