Lost Folder Structure.

So i have very important footage i shot but i just copied the STREAM folder and none of the other ones. Is there anyway that i can salvage these clips?

launch toast, click the iphone/apple-tv icon, chose video files, on the bottom you will see an "ADD" icon browse for your files, and pick the desired format (you can do it by clicking on the "Gear" looking icon on the bottom)... (there are endless options to pick from) but you could do ProRess422 or Apple Intermediate Codec (same as FCP's log and transfer) by choosing .MOV and selecting custom (and there are all your options)

i might be skipping a step or two, but there's other threads showing all the steps... either way is pretty straight foward! =)

This is why I always write-protect the card as soon as I'm done shooting. Too much to worry about with those sub-directories.

Good luck.

Is really not a big deal once you get to know the workflow... I bet thats a mistake he will make only once! =)
Either way Toast is fairly good at transcoding... and there are other options out there as well!!!

How do you write protect it? Isn't there a switch on some SD cards?

I guess I don't understand the problem....
I use my card reader to copy the .mts files out of the stream folder to my hard drive...no clips get lost...

Is this just a Mac issue? Or am I doing something wrong?

On Mac you have to copy all the "Private" folder, not just the stream files like you do in other programs like Sony Vegas... The difference is that you have to "Log and Transfer" to transcode to something thats 100% Mac friendly (like that they don't have to support the actual AVCHD file) witch we all know is a PIG to edit!!!

APPLE does this with AVCHD, P2, XDCAM... Hopefully we can get an update to do native editing on FCS3 (but i really don't think thats going to happen). On the plus side, we get a nice BIG file to edit and do color grading/filters/whatever without taking a huge performance loss

Other programs could do the same at a price of performance...

As of this moment i don't think there's a PERFECT workflow for AVCHD... We need more powerful Computers to do that!!!

Going back to the original post, there are other ways of playing/editing AVCHD files on the mac that don't required the file structure!!!

I guess it depends on the workflow each person wants to do....

Personally I'm waiting for "clipwrap" to do their final AVCHD file wrapper to be able just to drag and drop the files =)

Premiere CS 4.1 can handle the MTS files natively without the file structure. Perhaps he could download the 30 day demo to export or transcode the videos if Toast doesn't work for him.

Not possible... due to licensing issues, Adobe doesn't include support for a lot of formats... including AVCHD... with the demo version.

Why do you need any of the other files other than MTS? Just import the MTS file, sort by date and you're good to go!
